CLASSIC REWIND: NIKE WAFFLE ONE
The kicks that have you looking like a snack

Waffle what? Nikes? Yes.

You mean shoes that are waffles? No.

So they’re not edible? No.

What then? They’re wearable.

Waffles are said to have been around since the 13th century (according to the History of Waffles encyclopedia of course); a breakfast essential and a delicacy for foodies. Fast forward around 600 years: it inspires Nike to bring it to life as sneakers. You read that correctly. Madness or genius?

On today’s edition of Classic Rewind: we explore the iconic Nike Waffle One. Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike and shoe innovator, utilized a variety of inspiration for his work. One of the most notable concepts of his was the extraordinary Waffle Trainer. The sole of this unique footwear concept would have waffle-gap-shaped patterns and a “lid” at the ankles. In 1973, this was a game-changing design that gave running shoes an edge against all types of uneven surfaces. By filling a waffle iron, Bowerman had created what is now referred to as the “waffle grip”. It revolutionized running shoes forever.

Our shoe-connoisseur of the day is gamer and operations manager Nader. Kicking the Nike Waffle Ones, he climbs up sturdy steps in true gamer fashion, pushing past each hurdle with elegance. He describes the Waffle Ones and attributes its class to its tightly-knit finish and fine texture. Like every true enthusiast, Nader strides comfortably while speaking on what he loves with confidence and character. His passion as a sneakerhead shows as he explains the story behind the Waffle Ones.

Tune in to hear it from the man himself!
